Welcome to Exceptional Horizons

Is a competitive intellect (IQ) and decent expertise enough for success in today’s work world?  Turns out, it’s not.  Real success, contributions that positively impact the overall organization and it’s bottom line, require more than ‘cognitive’ net worth (IQ/expertise); it also requires ‘emotional’ net worth (interpersonal skill) - Exceptional Horizon’s specialty.   Often referred to as emotional intelligence (or EQ), we know that winners and high achievers have “it” - they can effectively ‘connect’ with others - and they don’t stifle or diminish the culture, the team dynamics, or the potential contributions of others around them.

With unwavering commitment, Exceptional Horizons works with leaders, teams, and individuals to understand and enhance their level of ‘EQ’ and its impact on the organization’s goals and their leadership, individual and/or team effectiveness and influence.

Based on deep experience, training and through coaching/assessments/programs and tools, individuals, teams and leaders are helped to ensure the formal and informal talk about them is indeed constructive, with the work focused on real time business goals and agendas.  Exceptional Horizons profoundly appreciates the fact that most don’t start out with high EQ.  But the ones who do achieve higher EQ levels use their IQ to understand its critical role in their success and then use their drive (internal or external motivation) and commitment to develop it.  They start out wanting more workplace influence and effectiveness, and in the process develop lifetime skills that serve them well both inside and outside the organizational walls.

Even genius level IQs and a slew of degrees can’t determine success in the workplace essentials of navigating political waters, effectively speaking and listening, managing conflict, building quality coalitions, collaboration and influence skill – those all require emotional competence, EQ.   And EQ levels can indeed be developed.  Based on years of research which includes neuroscience breakthroughs, empirical data, and longitudinal studies, we not only better understand EQ and how it can be developed, but we also now know that it can have up to 4 times the influence on workplace success than IQ or expertise; and EQ levels are also where we see the real ROI from an individual’s impact on the environment’s “health and wealth”.   Exceptional Horizons is about giving this advantage to those committed to achieving it.
